Poll: Bush-Gore Even in Handling of Social Security

August 3, 2000

A CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll conducted July 25-26 showed Vice President Gore holding a statistically insignificant two-point lead over Gov. George W. Bush in the category of who would do a better job handling the Social Security. Gore was the choice of 45 percent of respondents, Bush of 43.

The overall poll showed Bush with an 11-point lead over Gore in a four-way race including Patrick Buchanan and Ralph Nader, and 14-point lead in a head-to-head race with Gore.
