CSE's Hodge on Social Security
September 2, 1999
On Saturday, August 14 the Cato Institute and the Public Interest Institute
cosponsored an informational forum on Social Security reform in Ames, Iowa,
site of the Republican Straw Poll. One of the Speakers was Scott Hodge, Senior
Fellow for Tax and Budget Policy at Citizens for a Sound Economy:
"The unions and the White House have mounted an aggressive, multimillion
dollar campaign against personal retirement accounts. They say that they're
protecting workers from a "risky scheme" - how many times have we heard that
phrase in Washington? - that will somehow undermine the long-term security of
workers. But when you look at the facts, and see that personal retirement accounts
could make the next generation of retirees retire as millionaires, then it's
really clear that Washington's elite is out of step and out of touch with the
best interests of their membership."
