The President’s Commission to Strengthen Social Security will hold its next public meeting on November 9th, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a break for lunch between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. The Commission will be deliberating on Social Security reform options, including options for insuring the system’s continued solvency. The Commission will also be holding public meetings on November 29th and December 11th. More information will be posted here as soon as it is available. The November 29th meeting is expected to focus on the design and administration of individual accounts. A final report could be issued at the December 11th meeting.

The House Education and Workforce Committee’s Subcommittee on Employer-Employee Relations will hold a hearing on “Retirement Security for the American Worker,” on Nov. 1st. The hearing will convene at 2:30 PM in Rayburn 2175.

The Urban Institute will host a forum on "A Framework for Analyzing and Managing Retirement Risks: Implications for Reforming Social Security?" at noon on November 9th. The forum will feature Professor Zvi Bodie of Boston University, who has written widely on the subject.

Important Note

Social Security This Week will not be published November 9th or November 16th because the editor will be participating in Cato’s China conference. In addition, because of the Thanksgiving holiday, Social Security This Week will be published on November 21st, rather than November 23rd.
