The AARP will hold a conference on "Beyond 50: Financial
Security in a Changing World," on December 11, 2001, at the
Georgetown University Research Building auditorium. The
conference will explore the new forces impacting financial security for
people age 50 and over, including Social Security reform, the role of
pensions and savings, continued earnings through work, and health
insurance questions.
On February 12, the Cato Institute and the National Black
Chamber of Commerce will co-sponsor a conference on "Social
Security and African-Americans." The conference will examine
whether the current Social Security system is fair to African-Americans;
the need to increase saving and investment in the
African-American community, and whether a system of individual
accounts would help or hurt African-Americans and other minorities.
Confirmed speakers include: Harry Alford, Ken Blackwell, Horace
Cooper, Kilolo Kijakazi, Star Parker, B.B. Robinson, Darrell Williams,
and Robert Woodson.
