Rosa L. DeLauro (D)We must strengthen and protect Social Security for current and future generations. We can do that by using the federal surplus to reduce the national debt, then investing the interest saved in Social Security. I support "Retirement Savings Plus" accounts that encourage retirement savings in addition to Social Security. I oppose privatization schemes that subtract from Social Security and jeopardize seniors' guaranteed income. I oppose raising the retirement age. In addition, I've authored legislation that calls upon Congress to recognize that women typically live longer, earn less over their lifetimes, and lack private pensions when it considers Social Security reforms. |
