June Gold (R)Yes, I most certainly do favor Social Security reform that would allow workers to save a portion of their payroll taxes in a personal retirement account. Working Americans, especially young working Americans, can earn a much higher retirement income by investing their taxes in a portfolio of investments. Moreover, Social Security is a particularly poor retirement income vehicle for groups with shorter life expectancies. Under the current plan, the estates and families of a beneficiary earns nothing upon death. Individually owned and privately managed retirement accounts would reduce the risk to long term retirement funds. This would also allow people who are not currently managing their own funds the opportunity to learn to invest, while at the same time, facilitating retirement savings. |
