Social Security Privatization It's Your Money, Your Choice, Your Future

William "Bill" Nelson (D)

Social Security

In these times of economic prosperity we must use the budget surplus to strengthen Social Security and ensure the program remains solvent for current retirees and those to come. I am opposed to privatizing Social Security by taking money out of Social Security and risking it in individual stock market accounts. The recent dramatic sell-off in the market was a powerful reminder of the need for prudence and fiscal responsibility in maintaining the stability of the nation's retirement program.

I am opposed to raising the age eligibility for Social Security and any other eligibility requirements.

Additionally, as a part of a larger reform plan I advocate improving income protections for elderly women who experience high poverty rates relative to the overall elderly population.
