Social Security Privatization It's Your Money, Your Choice, Your Future

Bob Simpson (D)

I support:

Ensuring that the Social Security system will be solvent in 2050.

Removing the cap on earnings subject to Social Security, self-employment, and Medicare taxes.

Increasing the threshold at which Social Security Disability Insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid benefits are lost.

I oppose:

Privatizing Social Security. There are two flaws in the privatization scheme proposed by the Republicans: It rests on the assumption that the market will perform for the next eighty years as it has for the past eight, but not as it has for the past eighty; and it does not explain how the Social Security system will avoid bankruptcy with one-third less money contributed to it each year.
