Laura Beth Gash (D)Social Security I support transferring 60.2% of the projected budget surpluses over 10 years to pay down the debt, using interest savings to extend the solvency of Social Security and Medicare. I don't support privatization of the Social Security system. I support individual savings accounts that allow working Americans to better save for their retirement. This could be accomplished by establishing Retirement Security Accounts in which every $100 an individual invests annually is matched by the government up to $300, as well as increasing from $2,000 to $5,000 maximum, annual IRA contributions. I oppose a reduction of the COLA/CPI since Social Security keeps millions of elderly citizens, especially women, out of poverty, and support reducing the Social Security income subject to taxation from 85% to 50%. I supported the repeal of earnings limits for those ages 65-69. I don't support raising the age for receipt of full Social Security retirement benefits. |
