Social Security is essential for the people of my district and state. Since being elected to Congress in 1994, I have worked to protect and preserve it. If re-elected, I will continue to fight to ensure that Social Security is safeguarded for future generations.
It is important that people in Maine and throughout the nation have greater opportunities to invest and save for their retirement. That's why I've voted to increase IRA contribution limits from $2,000 to $5,000. I have also supported other incentives to give workers and retirees more tools to bolster their retirement income.
Social Security has been instrumental in lifting many seniors out of poverty. It is vitally important for families in Maine and across America. Its trust fund must be protected. Its resources should never be used for another purpose, and it should be secured in a lock box.
