Social SecurityFirst of all, Social Security is a promise, and we must honor our commitment to all Americans. People who have paid into the system for many years will get their money back at retirement.
But we must realize that most American families cannot rely on Social Security alone in retirement. Renewing the American Dream means allowing younger families the option of taking some of their payroll tax money out of the Social Security system in order to place it in investments with a potential for greater return. The large federal tax surplus gives us a great opportunity to change the system without putting anyone's retirement at risk.
