Restoring Social Security's solid foundation continues as one of my highest priorities. I am NOT in favor of privatizing the system. To do so at this time would create a huge unfunded liability, and threaten the stability of our entire system. However, I would support experimenting with additional options for people who are just now entering the workforce, and allowing some kind of gradual phase-in of private, 401-k type plans using a limited portion of an individual's Social Security tax dollars. This could increase opportunities for individuals to save and invest in private sector retirement funds without jeopardizing the soundness of the Social Security system.
