Social Security Privatization It's Your Money, Your Choice, Your Future

Jon S. Corzine (D)

Social Security

Social Security is a sacred compact between the government and its citizens, and we have to do everything we can to preserve and protect Social Security, both for this generation and generations to come. Social Security has been, along with Medicare and Medicaid, the cornerstone of one of the most important advances made in America in the 20th Century - namely, making it possible for senior citizens to live with dignity in their retirement years.

    As a Senator I will:

  • Oppose any cuts in Social Security benefits.
  • Protect and strengthen benefits for spouses, widows and divorced women.
  • Oppose any plans to raise the eligibility age for Social Security.
  • Oppose any effort to raid the Social Security Trust Fund to pay for other government spending.
  • Dedicate the budget surplus to saving Social Security first.
  • Oppose any privatization plan that would take money out of the Social Security Trust Fund, and oppose the Republicans expensive and flawed plan for individual social security accounts.
  • Implement President Clinton's plan to invest a limited portion of the trust fund while guaranteeing that all Social Security benefits will be paid in full.
