The Ensign Plan to protect Social Security:
- Protect Social Security. John Ensign will continue to support the complete removal of Social Security from the federal budget so that it can be secured for Social Security recipients and never again used for wasteful government spending.
- Security for Today's Seniors. Seniors deserve to share in federal surpluses by having Social Security taxes reduced and earnings penalties repealed. Washington should not play games with annual cost-of-living increases or make changes to the program that create the unfair effect felt by thousands of seniors who were born in the so-called "Notch" years.
- Fairness for the Future. While Social Security has kept generations of Americans out of poverty, it is fair to allow future recipients to expect similar security. Those in today's workforce are tomorrow's retirees, and they deserve the opportunity to invest a portion of their Social Security payroll taxes in individual accounts. This change would not affect today's Social Security recipients but would give the next generation an actual investment they could count on when they retire.
